"Elisha D. Coffin enlisted May 17, 1863, as a Private in Company D of the 71st Regiment of 6th Cavalry Indiana Vols. commanded by Charles Goreuch. He rcvd. an honorable discharge at Camp Chase, OH on June 13, 1865.
Elisha D. Coffin was captured by Confederate forces during Stoneman's Raid near Atlanta, GA around Aug. 6, 1864 & was imprisoned at Andersonville Prison & later a prison in Florence, SC. He became ill from scurvy, typhoid & rheumatism."
