Priscilla Jean Rush Chalmers, 71, died October 29, 2011, in Springdale, surrounded by family and close friends.
Priscilla was born January 7, 1940 in Memphis, Tenn., to the late Holton and Winifred Rush.
She attended East High School in Memphis, and received her Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill., where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She obtained a Masters Degree in Speech Pathology from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.
On March 28, 1964, Priscilla married her love, Richard Edwin "Dick" Chalmers. They lived in Quebec, New Orleans, and Memphis before moving to Arkansas in 1976, and they were married 30 years at the time of his death in 1994.
While living in Russellville, Priscilla worked in the home raising her growing family. The Chalmers family was actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Russellville. After moving to Northwest Arkansas in 1987, Priscilla pursued her career in speech therapy working in several schools and healthcare facilities. She briefly had her own speech therapy practice, Chalmers Speech Therapy, located in Lowell.
Priscilla is known for her beautiful flower gardens and her delicious meals. The Chalmers house has always been a fun gathering place for family and friends. Priscilla loved outdoor adventures including family trips to Colorado, canoeing, bicycling, picnics, and ice skating. Boating and lake activities were a love of hers, spending her summers as a child in Saugatuck on Lake Michigan and living on the lake in Arkansas. She once said that she was "married to her family," and without fail she put them above all else. Priscilla was always available to lend a helping hand to school events and anything related to the lives of her children. She will be remembered as a woman of gracious spirit who gave of herself tirelessly. Her Christian faith was a strength to her and a testimony to those around her.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her younger brother, Holton Marshall Rush.
She is survived by her children, Lindsey Drain and husband Kenny of Russellville, Todd Chalmers of Denver, Colo., Lauren Watkins and husband Rob of Bryant, Dwight Chalmers of Little Rock, Lee Chalmers and wife Michelle of Farmington, Russell Chalmers and wife Lori of Springdale; and grandchildren, Taylor, Benjamin, Jessica, and Annalee Drain, Aubrey Watkins Wilson and husband Blake, Amberly Watkins, and Callie Chalmers.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. A celebration of Priscilla's life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Fellowship of Christians Church in Russellville. Interment will follow in Brearley Cemetery under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville. The family will host a lunch reception at a local restaurant after the services.
