Great-Great-Grandmother

She was the daughter of Jacob Creighbaum and Nancy Durbin Creighbaum.

Her account of crossing the Oregon Trail has been published in many genealogical publications. A portion of it follows:

We soon reached Burnt River. This was a lovely stream, the water was clear and the bottom of the stream was covered with small rocks. We all enjoyed wading across this cool clear stream. We crossed it several times that day and at night we camped on its bank. The next night we reached Powder River, where Baker is now. It was dark when we arrived here so we made a camp for the night. In the morning we decided to stop here. Some concluded to take up ranches and others to go to the Auburn Mines. Some of our party went to Portland and others to the Willamette Valley. There were already settlers in Powder River Valley at this time and they were glad to have us stop and we too were glad to find a place to make our homes for we were very tired of traveling. This was the 20th day of September 1862.
