Mr. Brent was born in Elkhorn, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Kendall C. Brent and Della Louise Brent. He was a longtime resident of Macon. Mr. Brent always said that he would have never met the Georgia peach and love of his life if he had not been stationed in Macon during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Mary Ella McMolin Brent, and their son, Landon Haines Brent, Jr.
During World War II, Mr. Brent served in the Army Air Corp. He was a flight engineer and ball turret gunner on B-24 Liberators. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and a Purple Heart. He would often remind those that would listen that “we lost 26, 000 young men in the 8th Air Force and he prayed we would remember what Lincoln said at Gettysburg, “Let us here be highly resolved that these men shall not have died in vain”. After World War II, Mr. Brent came back to Macon and graduated from Mercer University. He taught and coached at Lanier High School in Macon from 1949 until 1977. After retiring, he and Mary moved to Spring Creek, Florida where fishing was almost a daily event. Mr. Brent was a highly ranked tennis player in Georgia, Florida and the nation in his age division. He would always say “Life has been good to me, people have been good to me”.
