Mrs. Brenda Jane York Barus, 68, of Valdese, passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 12, 2014 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Barus was born November 22, 1945 in Burke County, a daughter of the late Sidney and Lee Ila Moses York . Brenda attended Drexel and Western Piedmont School. She always looked forward to her Drexel High School Class reunions. Brenda was a charter member of Faith Chapel Baptist Church, where she had held many jobs and loved to sing praises to her Lord. She retired from Drexel Heritage Furniture, Inc. She leaves behind a legacy of a heart of gold, always doing for those in need and never thinking of herself. She loved her family, friends and her church family. Brenda always gave and never wanted anything in return.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lee Barus,Sr. a grandson, Dennis Ray Stilwell, Jr. and a brother, Charles York.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, brother, sister, family and friends whom she loved with a unconditional love.
Surviving are her children, Roy L. (Bucky) Barus of Valdese, Roxane Stilwell and husband Dennis of Granite Falls, Greg (Sam) Barus of Valdese, Rhonda Barus (Shannon LaFevers) of Valdese, Johnny Barus and wife Kim of Claremont, brother, Gwyn York of Valdese and a sister, Louise Edwards of Morganton. Also surviving are her companion, Richard Simmons of Valdese, twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and one on the way, a special sister-in-law, who was like a sister, Ginny Barus of Harmony, NC, and a special niece and nephew, Scott and Monica Barus of Valdese.
Funeral Services for Brenda York Barus will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday September 16, 2014 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, with Rev. Harold Ward. Interment will follow in the Burke Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 P.M. Monday at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, where the body will remain until placed in the chapel 30 min. prior to the services.
