H. Dewey Ballard, 63, of Union died March 20, 1998, in Columbia Greenbrier Valley Hospital, Fairlea, after a short illness. He was a member of Union Memorial Baptist Church and a disabled truck driver with Edwards Trucking Co. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Mabel Copeland Ballard; three brothers, an infant, Paul and Thomas Ballard; and one son, Larry Dean Ballard. He is survived by wife, Eloise Jones Ballard; three sons, Steven of Waiteville, Philip and Gary, both of Union; two brothers, John Ballard of Rock Camp, Homer Ballard of Pearisburg, Va.; two sisters, Kathleen Simpkins of Blacksburg, Va., Elizabeth Hall of Union; two grandchildren, Shawn and Jessica Ballard of Waiteville. Service will be 8 p.m. Sunday at Groves Funeral Home, Union, with the Rev. Bob Ratliff and the Rev. Tommy Mounts officiating.
