Jeannene Zimmerman attended Congregation Emanu El, where she was active in the Temple Youth Group and taught at the religious school. She graduated from Bellaire High School and the University of Houston. She was a founding member of Congregation Shaar Hashalom in Clear Lake City. She was devoted to and active in AIDS education and assistance for HIV positive clients through her work with the Texas Health and Human Service Center, as well as working hard to educate the public on the availability of Children's Medicaid. She cared deeply for those she worked with and always made the children welcome with smiles and toys.
She is survived by her daughter, Lori Ramon, of Seattle; her son, Noah Ramon and his wife Jennifer Ramon; her mother, Jeane Martin; brother, Max Zimmerman and his wife, Martha, of Houston; sister Sophi Zimmerman and her husband, Whatley Langham, of Houston; sister Barbara Zimmerman of Austin; sister Sandy Zimmerman of Austin; and nieces, Margaret Zimmerman of London, Michael Zimmerman of Houston; and nephew, Joshua Langham of Houston.
Funeral ervices were held Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Congregation Emanu El in Houston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Literary Advance Houston, American Diabetes Association, or the Houston Women's Center.
