Mrs. August Kugel Passed Away at Home Sunday
Mrs. August Kugel, aged 79 years, eight months and four days, passed away at her home in this city Sunday [5 March 1939] and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul’s Lutheran church with the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiating, and interment was made in Grand Meadow cemetery.
Maria Zieman the deceased was born in Jefferson township, Clayton county, July 1, 1859, the daughter of John [Johann Christlieb] and Elizabeth Meier Zieman. Since she was twelve years old she has lived in this community.
She was married to August Kugel February 21, 1884, and six children were born to this union, five of whom survive. One son, Fred, passed away when he was five years old, and her husband passed away in Februrary 1932. The surviving children are Mrs. Fred Borcherding of Guttenburg; Louise Kugel, Postville; William Kugel, Luana; Mrs. G.A. Renne, Cedar Rapids; Harvey Kugel, Postville.
She is also survived by one brother, Albert Zieman of Postville, and six grandchildren as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
The deceased had made her home in Postville for the past severral years, since the family retired from the old home farm southeast of town.
