GEORGE WASHINGTON YOUNG/(aka George William "G.W." Young, Sr.), son of JOHN YOUNG and SALINA COWART. He was born 30 Aug 1849 in Wetumpka District, Coosa Co, Alabama, and died 07 Apr 1936 in Jacksonville, Cherokee Co., TX.

In the 1850 and 1860 Censuses GW Young's birthplace is given as Alabama. In 1900 he gave his birthplace as Georgia. His death certificate gives place of birth as GA.

He was the husband of Frances A. "Fannie" Bloxton. They were married 29 Dec 1870 in Shelby Co, Alabama.

Grady Irwin says that they were Methodists.

About 1888 he came to Rusk Co, TX from Alabama. While in Alabama, they lived 90 miles from Birmingham in Coosa Conear the Tallapoosa River. He was a farmer. He was extraordinarily nearsighted and didn't think it could be corrected because when he tried on those glasses in the drugstore his vision was even worse. 1921 (or earlier) he moved to Jacksonville, TX. At time of death he lived on Burleson Street, Jacksonville, TX. On 8 Apr 1936 he was buried in Providence Cemetery, between Jacksonville and Dialville, Cherokee Co, TX. According to his death certificate, he was 86 years old when he died (of general debility). He and his wife are buried with a double headstone, giving dates of birth and death

G.W. & Fannie's daughter, Emma Jane Young, married John Samuel Irwin. Emma died before her son married. Their son is still living, is 104 years old. Their son is named Grady Scott Irwin after his Uncle Grady.
