Alvin and Mary Lee, and two of their children, Leslie and Mark, were killed in a two car head on collision on Highway 73, west of Port Arthur. The Yorks operated the grocery and washeteria on the 500 block of Nederland avenue for six years and lived at 113 Fifth street, around the corner from their business. Mark York was an honor student in the junior class at Kelly Catholic high school at Beaumont and was one of 24 area students to receive a science scholarship grant to Northwestern Louisiana college at Natchitoches. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic church and the Catholic Youth organization. Leslie York was six and in kindergarten at St. Charles Catholic school. Surviving the parents were four sons, Alvin E. York Jr and Murray Edward York, both of Nederland, Dave York, with the Air Force at San Antonio, and Richard (Dick) York of Houston. Mr. York is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Ada York of Quincy, Ill. and two sisters and two brothers of Quincy. Other survivors of Mrs. York are her mother, Mrs. Alma Carmichael of Beaumont, a brother, Louis Carmichael of Beaumont, two sisters, Mrs. R.W. Needer of Port Arthur and Mrs. Marguerette Pure of Groves.
