Memorial services for former Syracuse resident Viola B. Yates, 87, who died Thursday at her home in Carmel, Calif., will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Community Church of Monterey Peninsula, Carmel. Burial will be in El Carmelo Cemetery, Pacific Grove, Calif. A native of Syracuse, Mrs. Yates also lived in Indianapolis and Kansas City, Mo., before moving to Carmel in 1988. She taught piano and organ while living in Indianapolis. Her husband, Kenneth E., died in 1923. Mrs. Yates was a member of the Community Church of the Monterey Peninsula, the Carmel Foundation, the Corinthian Club, the Rose Society and the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Rivette of Pebble Beach, Calif.; two grandsons; and a great-grandson. The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, has charge of arrangements.
