In loving memory of Ethel E. Williams, 95, who went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 5, 2011. A precious mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
She was born in Bokchito, Oklahoma on September 4, 1916 to Frank and Emma Wright. She was one of nine children, 5 boys and 4 girls. Together with her family they cleared land, farmed, and raised livestock. As a young girl she worked long hard laborious hours beside her brothers for the family. In her teenage years she gained notoriety for being a member of one of the first young women's basketball teams in the State of Oklahoma and winning competitions in her favorite pastime, clogging at the Saturday night barn dance socials which were so popular during those days. She was married to Floyd Williams for 52 years, raising one son and three daughters. As with many other families they moved from Oklahoma to California enduring many difficult and challenging years as depicted in the Grapes of Wrath. She was truly a hard working woman. She was a member of Arvin First Southern Baptist Church until her move back to Bokchito, Oklahoma in 1992 with her eldest daughter and son-in-law. She then moved her church membership to Reynolds Chapel Baptist Church which she referred to as "slide-up" where she also attended as a young girl for church services and elementary school. Her hobbies included Bible reading, music, sports, gardening, games, and having all her family gathered together. She will be lovingly remembered for her spunky spirit, sense of humor, devotion to her Lord and most notably all her cooking. Everyone who entered her home were served with her "tasty southern cookin" till they couldn't hold another bite.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Barbara Ann Nessmith who passed on October 5, 2011 in Goodyear, Arizona; son-in-law, Donald L. Chivington who passed on January 27, 2005 in Bokchito, Oklahoma and her husband, Floyd B. Williams who passed on April 21, 1988 in Arvin, California.
