Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Underwood were conducted Sunday afternoon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with interment in the Underwood family cemetery. Rev. Walter Lay and Dr. Paul Horner were in charge of the services. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. Mrs. Underwood was born in the Mac community of Taylor County on June 9, 1876, the daughter of the late Thomas Wright and Nancy Ellen Sprowles Wright, and died Friday night at the home of her son, Bennie Underwood near Mac. She had been in ill health for several months. She was the widow of Andy Underwood, who preceded her in death in 1939. Mrs. Underwood is survived by four children, Oscar Underwood, Bennie Underwood, and Howard Underwood, all of Mac, and Mrs. Oma (Bill) Loyall of Summersville, Ky.; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Wright of Taylor County, Charlie Matt Wright of Marion County and Mac Wright of Illinois. Pallbearers were Syndal Underwood, Shelby Underwood, Gene Underwood, Roy Underwood, Donald Underwood, and Bobby Pierce.
