SHELBYVILLE - Hazel A. Cole, 93, of Shelbyville died 11:12 p.m. Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) in the Extended Care Unit of Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, with visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery, Assumption. Memorials: Free Methodist Church, Shelbyville, or Locust Grove Church, Assumption.

Mrs. Cole was born in Shelby County on Aug. 27, 1905, the daughter of Isaac and Louisa Wells Wortman. She was a 1924 graduate of Shelbyville High School and received higher education at Indiana Central College, Eastern Illinois University, Normal University and National College of Education of Evanston. She retired in 1968 after 28 years of teaching in the public schools of Shelby County, including 20 years as a first grade teacher in Findlay. She was a member of Free Methodist Church, Shelbyville, where she taught Sunday School for several years and a former member of Locust Grove Church, Assumption. She married Ronald E. Cole on Jan. 4, 1930. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1968.

Surviving are her son, Jacob Cole and wife Carol of Shelbyville; daughter, Elaine Helton and husband Carl of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ruth Kingsbury of New Jersey; Steven Helton of Texas; Mary Landers of Bloomington; Sarah Cole of St. Charles; Leah Clack of Geneva; John Cole of Decatur; Ben Cole and Jill Miller, both of Shelbyville; sisters-in-law, Mildred Cole of Shelbyville; Ruth Cole of Lincoln; brothers-in-law, Horace Jordan of Moweaqua; the Rev. Orville Cole and wife Georgina of Lanark; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, C.R. "Richard" Cole; brother, Henry Wortman; sister, Clover Meyer; granddaughter, Lisa Helton.
