Prince Frederick -- HARRIET ELIZABETH WORTHINGTON BRISCOE, 79, died Monday at her family home, Old Field, following an extended illness. She was born in Washington County, Md., and grew up in Hagerstown where she lived until 1923 when she moved to Calvert County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Everard Briscoe.

Mrs. Briscoe graduated from Towson State Teachers College and had attended the university of Maryland. Known to her friends as Calvert County's unofficial historian, Mrs. Briscoe has written a weekly column for the Calvert Independent Newspaper in Prince Frederick since 1950.

As a charter member of the Calvert County Historical Society, she served as the society's secretary for the past 14 years. She was also a member of the Historical Districting Committee and the Maryland Historical Trust Commission for Calvert County. Among her contributions to the county are the founding of the Prince Frederick Garden Club in the early 1930s and in 1936 the Calvert Garden Club. She was State Conservation Chairman for the Federation of Garden Clubs and for many years was chairman of the Maryland House and Garden Tour's Calvert County Pilgrimage. She had also served in many volunteer capacities in the community.

Mrs. Briscoe served on various committees to plan the court house, a hospital, and was instrumental in establishing the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons. Several years ago she was appointed by the Governor to be chairman of Maryland Crippled Children's Aid of the juvenile court. She served on the local Bi-Centennial Commission and was actively involved in many of their projects. She was past regent of the John Hanson Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and an active member of the Soutyhern Maryland Colonial Dames.

She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Briscoe Bacot, Severna Park; son, Everard Dudley Briscoe, Westminister; brother, Amos Worthington, Baltimore; and seven grandchildren.

Services were held at Christ Church in Port Republican. Burial in the church cemetery.
