Margaret Ann Worthington

Margaret Ann Worthington of Exton

Margaret Ann Worthington of Exton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 10, 2011. She was 89 years old.

She, along with her husband Robert, was the proprietor of Worthington Orchards in Lionville for over 30 years.

Born and raised in Shrewsbury, Margaret was the daughter of Elmer Allen "Sox" Rehmeyer and Alice May Belle Sweeney.

She was one of four children raised on the family's farm in York County. Each of her brothers, James, Glenn and Robert preceded her in death.

Margaret graduated Valedictorian of her class and attended West Chester State Teachers College. She returned to York County after graduation to teach elementary school.

It was during her years at WCSTC that she met her husband to be - Robert Morgan Worthington of Lionville. Married in 1946, they settled in as life-long residents of Uwchlan Township. Robert passed away in 1991. "Margie" and "Bob" owned and operated Worthington Orchards - a 100 acre fruit farm in Chester County founded in 1925. A country girl at heart, Margaret devoted her life to being the wife and helpmate of a fruit grower and a dedicated mother raising her children in the fruit of the spirit.

Margaret is survived by her three children and their spouses: Robert and Prudence Worthington of Exton, Maryalis and John Bakken, also of Exton, and Ruthanne Worthington and Edward Johnson of Philadelphia. She had six grandchildren: Andrew, Sarah, Brandt, Lindsay, Emma, and Tess, as well as her nephew and niece Richard "Butch" Rehmeyer, and Lisa Gaier.

An original member of the Lionville Community Methodist Church, Margaret was an integral part of the church's fellowship and was loved for the joy she brought to others. She'll be remembered for her radiant optimism, gentleness of spirit, and steadfast friendship to others.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 15, at the Lionville Community Methodist Church, at Crump and Whitford Roads, in Lionville. A visitation hour, from 10 to 11 a.m. will precede the funeral service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 East Marshall St., West Chester, PA 19380.
