She is survived by two daughters, Kimberly A. Berrall of Elkton and Julia B. Duran of Glen Allen; and three grandchildren.
She graduated from Montclair High School in 1952 and Wheaton College, in Norton, Mass., in 1956, with a degree in botany. Later in life, she received an associate's degree in landscape design from Virginia Tech and began designing residential and commercial gardens and landscapes, introducing some of the early "green" concepts to the Shenandoah Valley.
In 1987, she joined VerStandig Broadcasting in advertising and marketing, representing local radio stations WSVA/Q101 until 1993.
She had a passion for singing and dancing and was a member of two local dance groups: The Massanutten Mountain Cloggers and Leather and Lace Line Dancers.
She was a longtime member of the Shenandoah Valley Choral Society. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club and volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club. She was also a master gardener.
According to her wishes, her body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 3, at Sunnyside Chapel in Harrisonburg.
In lieu of flowers, she requested that friends "please go out and plant a blooming tree" in her memory.
