Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Edwin Urias “Rice” and Ethel Mae Hitt Wood. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a retail sales associate with Belk Simpson Downtown. Early in life, she worked at Woodside and Dunean Mills and as a life insurance agent with Independent Life Insurance Company. She was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sue E. Baker Williams and husband, Charles E., of Piedmont and Nancy A. Baker Roberts and husband, Johnny, of Elberton, GA; son, Harold E. “Bud” Baker and wife, Ann, of Greenville; sister, Rev. Patricia S. Wood, of Greenville; two brothers, Harmon “Jick” D. Wood and Edwin “Mister” D. Wood, both of Greenville; four grandchildren, Dell Baker, Cyndi Williams Everette, Sheryl Williams Baker, and Della Baker Hutto; and five great-grandchildren, Hillary Baker, Paige Baker, Daniel Hutto, Ian Baker, and Sara Everette.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Boyd O’Dell “Duck” Baker; and three siblings, Richard P. Wood, George R. Wood, and Betty Sue Wood Howie.
Burial: Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
