Ruby Winstead Beasley, 86, of the 3000 block of Vivian St., died in her home Dec 22, 2002.

Born in Rocky Mount, N.C., Mrs. Beasley was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison and Fannie Ephra Whitley Winstead. She was a teacher with the Norfolk public schools and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association. Mrs. Beasley was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and belonged to The Rebekahs, a ladies fraternal organization, for 30 years.

Mrs. Beasley is survived by her daugher, Dorothy May Beasley of Norfolk; her sister, Sudia Patalano and husband Phillip of Norwalk, Conn.; many nephews and nieces, including a special niece, Sharon Williamson and husband Ronald of Durham, N.C.; and a very special friend, Katherine Gatdula and her family of Norfolk.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel by the Rev. Fred Braswell. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Suite 104, Virginia Beach, VA 23452.
