South Carolina, USA
|Death: ||Feb. 12, 2007|
Mother Crawford departed this life Tuesday, (February 12, 2007) at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by family and friends.
Born September 3, 1917, to Joe Wilson and Clarisa Mack-Wilson Dixon of Bishopville, SC, she attended various schools throughout the south and later became the wife of the late Booker T. Crawford. Growing up, one of 21 siblings, she was no stranger to adversity and yet, never had to raise her voice. Upon relocating to Hartford, Mrs. Crawford became a devoted member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Ministries for 48 years. Even during her illness, she remained devoted. When the sick were among us, she answered the call through her work as a Mt. Olive Church Missionary and Willing Worker.
During her early years, as a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord, she served on the Sr. Usher Board. Her entire life was devoted to her church and her children. She strongly believed that one should receive flowers while living; therefore, she gave her flowers through her membership in the Flower and The Willing Worker Clubs. Because of her baking skills, a special request was made that she assist in the preparation of all meals for prepared for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his staff before leaving Hartford, bound for Oslo, Norway to accept the Nobel Peace Prize.
