Dorothy Nell Jones
1916 - 2007
Dorothy Nell Jones, a longtime resident of Bakersfield, passed peacefully into eternal life at her residence on Friday, May 18, 2007. She was predeceased in 1993 by her husband of fifty eight years, W.C. "Casey" Jones, and is survived by her children, Ken Jones (Teri), Janet Banks (Orland) and Rick Jones (Cindy); her grandchildren who fondly called her "Dottie", Tami Pierce (Rick), Ty Roberts (Karen), Bryce, Trisha, and Trevor Jones, and Haley Ottaway (Robert). She was also affectionately known as "Great Dottie" to her great-grandchildren, Casey Pierce, Christopher, Paige and Andrew Roberts. She also leaves her stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Wood and Magen Todd; and her stepgreat-grandchild, Sydney Todd. Dorothy was born July 2, 1916, and died six weeks prior to her 91st birthday. She was the epitome of a lady during her entire adult life and retained that stature up to her passing. She maintained a courageous spirit of determination in her failing health and never wavered in her faith in her family and God. She was the fifth of eight children and the last living member of an Illinois tenant farm family that included her parents, Walter and Mary Frances (Miner) Wilson; and her siblings, Florence, Iola, George, Christine, Jay, Mabel, and Walt. "Dot" and her husband "Casey" moved their family from Texas to Bakersfield in 1947 to begin their family business, Coastal Engineering, an oilfield sales and service company. Working side by side, their legacy grew to include a number of enterprises including Airport Bus of Bakersfield, Coastal Netting Systems, and KBA Engineering. A commemorative inscription honoring Dot and Casey for their industry contributions is located at the Kern County Museum near the Pioneer Village "Black Gold, The Oil Experience" Exhibit Building. Family trips to their Pine Flat cabin in the 50's & 60's were filled with many happy gatherings. Dot and Casey traveled the world in their retirement, across the United States, Canada, Mexico, from Europe, to Asia, and the Middle East and all places between, whether by airplane, motor home, bus or car, their adventures were laced with amusing stories. Dot was a loving wife who cared for Casey untiringly particularly through his battle with Alzheimer's Disease; a devoted mother who gave her children wings to fly; a kindhearted grandmother who gave her grandchildren roots and stability. She was a proud great-grandmother and a thoughtful friend who will be greatly missed. Pam Greenlee will always hold a special place in the hearts of the family for the loving care and companionship she provided Dot as her full-time caregiver for six years. A private interment was held at Greenlawn Cemetery on May 31, 2007. A Memorial service is planned Friday, June 29, 2007, at 4:00 p.m., Greenlawn Mortuary Chapel, Panorama Drive at River Boulevard in Bakersfield. Dorothy Nell Jones 1916 - 2007
