Sara, from Natchitoches, Louisiana, was a young second grade teacher in 1920, when she met Jamie Becker. At the time, she was rooming with Dr. Jere and Katie McGrath Johnson, Jamie's aunt and uncle. Jamie and Sara married in 1921 in Gadsden, Alabama at her sister's home. Sara and Jamie were devoted to each other despite their different personalities: Jamie was outgoing, gregarious, always eager for a sporting event, a bridge game, or a fishing trip. Sara was sweet, gentle, unselfish, artistic, but in delicate health.
