Suggested edit: Hello - Your work on Find A Grave is awesome! You have helped me a lot in my research of the family of William Leander 'Uncle Billy' Williams. One of my Cummins cousins, Dr. Harry Ray Cummins (1887-1953), was a dentist, and his first wife was Flossie Edna Williams. She was the daughter of William Leander Williams and 2nd wife, Alice Gertrude Compton.

But I digress....

This message is to provide a short biography for the first wife of William Leander Williams, Clara Belle Compton - NOT correction. I found her middle name on another site I use to check sources and records.

As I researched Clara, I seemed to "get acquainted" with her, and she touched my heart. Her first child, little Cora, died when just 4 months old. Clara herself died so young - just 28 years old. She had three other children who were raised by her sister, Alice Gertrude Compton, Uncle Billy's second wife.

Here is what I wrote - you can use it (or not) and edit it as you see fit:
Clara Belle Compton was the first wife of William Leander Williams. She was the 4th of seven known children of Lemual Hammond Compton and Mary N. Beard. On 26 Nov 1870, she married William Leander Williams in Pope County, Illinois. They were the parents of four children:
Cora E. Williams 15 Mar 1872-4 Aug 1872.
Harry Otto Williams 25 Jun 1873-Oct 1961 - married Madge Beauman in 1907.
Ida P. Williams 11 Apr 1875-25 Apr 1896 - never married.
Myrtle Williams Cousins 20 Feb 1878-Sep 1968 - married Theodore Stephen Cousins.

I do thank you sincerely for your outstanding photographs and Memorials on Find A Grave! You are doing a great work - helping link families and preserve the memory of loved ones.

Kind regards,
Judy Holmes, daughter of Grover Holmes and Mattie Baldwin Holmes of Metropolis, Illinois
