James was the eldest Son of Thomas L & Olivia Williams. Born in Clark Co Ohio. His Wife and Children died during the Civil War. he never Remarried. He served as Sergent in the same regiment as his younger brother John C. Williams. Both survived from enlistments in 1861 till mustered out of service July 15, 1865 at war's end. James returned to the Lewisport KY area, then to Evansville where another sibling/family lived. His Death was noted as such.

James B Williams, an old soldier died Monday Afternoon at the home of relatives. 607 St Josephs ave. He was 78 years of age and had resided in Evansville for a number of years. The deceased was a carpenter by trade and was well known over the city. He was a widower and leaves no children. Arrangements for the funeral have not been announced. "
