Cora M. Fairbrother

Cora M. Willey was born December 12, 1859, at Danville, Que., the daughter of Noah and Marinda Emerson Willey.
Following the death of her father when a young child, she went to Pennsylvania with her mother where they resided a few years, after which they moved to St. Johnsbury. There on September 6, 1882, she was united in marriage to Arthur C. Fairbrother. To them were born two sons, Maynard Witt, who died at the age of seven, and Hugh Willard.
About 55 years ago they came to Newport and resided, except for a few years, in the family home on Coventry Street. Mr. Fairbrother passed away June 6, 1933.
After a period of nine years of failing health Mrs. Fairbrother passed quietly away on March 21, at the age of 86. During the years of illness she was tenderly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Fairbrother and her granddaughter, Miss Frances Fairbrother.
She was deeply devoted to her family and was happiest when those near and dear were about.
Her interest in the affairs of the day did not slacken with the years. While able she was a faithful attendant and member of the Congregational Church, Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs, and Woman’s Club.
Among the survivors are: two half brothers, John McFarland of Bell, Calif., Alden McFarland of Great Barrington, Mass., a foster daughter, Mrs. Norris Jepson of North Adams, Mass., a niece, Mrs. F. A. Williams, of Littleton, N. H., a son, Hugh Fairbrother, grandchildren, Clinton R. Fairbrother, Dale A. Fairbrother, Frances Fairbrother and great grandchildren, Nancy and Ellen Fairbrother.
Rev. W. A. Bugden officiated at the services held at her late home on Sunday afternoon. A profusion of flowers attested to the love in which she was held.
The bearers were: Robert Davis, Joel Bly, Austin Beebe, John Beebe, Natt Rowell, Lewis Rowell. Burial took place in the family lot in the East Main Street cemetery.
Among those from away here to attend the funeral were: Andrew C. Beck of St. Johnsbury; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Fairbrother, Mrs. Mary Berry, West Burke; Mrs. Lillian Durkin, Barton; Mr. and Mrs. Chester Barlow, Coventry; Mrs. Hazel Barlow, Derby; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rowell, Derby; Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Rowell, Wells River and Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Kittredge, Island Pond.
