Birth: Aug. 31, 1845
New Oxford
Adams County
Pennsylvania, USA
Death: Mar. 5, 1936
Dayton
Montgomery County
Ohio, USA

The son of Rufus & Eliza Ellen (Forrest) Will, in 1850 he and sister Laura lived with the John Cress family in Straban Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania. In 1860, he was a farmer and carpenter by trade but is not found in that census. He stood 5' 3" tall and had dark hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into federal service at Chambersburg, Franklin County, February 19, 1862, as a private with Co. F, 77th Pennsylvania Infantry, but discharged by surgeon's certificate May 23, 1862, at St. Louis, Missouri. His name is neither present in Bates History of Pennsylvania Volunteers nor in the company register, almost certainly because he was dropped from the rolls following his discharge. He returned to Pennsylvania and enlisted in Gettysburg August 7, 1862, overstating his age by four years, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 23 as a musician with Co. B, 138th Pennsylvania Infantry. He honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865, and bragged - with justification - that he had always been present for duty, never wounded, and never seriously ill.

He married Eliza Dorsey ca. 1870 and fathered George Holman (b. 10/18/72). On November 27, 1923, he entered the Soldier's Home in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, but left, date not recorded, and resided in Montgomery County until his death.
