Baldwin —AVA CUMMINGS
Funeral services for Ava Cummings, 79, Baldwin City, will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Ives Chapel United Methodist Church, Baldwin City. Mrs. Cummings died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City.
She was born Feb. 3, 1923, at Banner, the daughter of Ralph and Yuba (Flynn) Wildes. She attended school at Banner and graduated from Wakeeney High School in 1941. She attended Fort Hays State University, Hays. She worked at a car dealership in Atchinson, where she met her husband.
She married David Myron Cummings May 3, 1947, in Colorado Springs, Colo. He died in 1974.
She and her husband lived in Denver, Colo., before moving to a farm near Baldwin City in the 1950s. They later moved to town. She was a secretary for the maintenance department at Baker University. She was clerk for Baldwin City. In 1996, she retired as a secretary from the Baker football department. She moved to Orchard Lane Apartments in 1999.
Survivors include one daughter, Mylinda Wilhite and her husband, Tom, Baldwin City; one brother, Loren Wildes, Manhattan; one sister, Loree Acheson, Palco; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Rosalie Smith.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Baldwin City, following the ceremony. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
