MONTAGUE- Daisy D. (Wild) Canning, 67, of 429 Turners Falls Road, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at home after being stricken ill.
Born on March 19, 1939 in Plainfield, Vermont, she was a daughter of Bert R. and Hazel B. (Wheeler) Wild and grew up in Vermont, graduating from Barre (VT) High School.
An employee of Erving Paper Mill for 26 years, she later went to work at Kennametal for 12 years before retiring in November of 2005.
She has spent many happy years with her companion of 17 years, Robert "Buddha" Cyr.
Daisy was a member of the Millers Falls Rod & Gun Club for thirteen years, and besides being the club's first female member, she served as a Vice President as well as on the Board of Directors.
Daisy and "Buddha" loved to travel and quite often went to Moeghan Sun Casino where Daisy enjoyed playing the slot machines. She also was a huge fan of NASCAR Racing, especially driver Dale Jarrett.
Survivors include her son, Dennis Canning Sr. And his companion Deb Kingsbury, of Athol; a daughter, Kim Smith and her husband Dan, of Tully; her grandchildren, Dennis Canning Jr. and his wife Jes, of Tully, Shawn Canning, who's stationed in Iraq, and his wife Christina of Texas, and Kyle Smith of Tully; her great grandchildren, Zachery Canning, Emma Canning, and Maidison Canning; her long time companion and friend, Robert "Buddha" Cyr; sisters, Rita Heart of Swanzey, NH and Beverly Richardson of Vermont; many nephews and nieces; and a sister in law, Liz Wild of Sumpter, SC.
Daisy was predeceased by two sons, Gerald Canning and James Canning IV, a brother, Raymond Wild, and a sister, Bertha Grout.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon, July 22, 2006 at 1:00PM at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.
Interment in South Cemetery, Orange, will be private.
Calling hours will be Friday evening, July 21, 2006 from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
