Debbie was born July 26, 1957, in Princeton, Ky., the daughter of Arnold and Marlyn (Hanson) Wigginton. Her first years were spent in Fredonia, Ky. Later, the family moved to Crosby where she attended Divide County High School, graduating in 1975. She then attended UND-Williston College, obtaining an associate degree in banking and finance. Following graduation, she was employed at First National Bank and Trust, Crosby, where she worked for 34 years (27 years as vice president).
Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Neil Benter, on June 18, 1977, at Ambrose Lutheran Church. To this union was born a daughter, Carly Jo Juetten, and a son, Derek Arnold. She and her family traveled extensively throughout the country and the world, including France and Italy. Debbie was a devoted supporter of her children's scholastic and athletic endeavors and always encouraged them to do their best. It brought Debbie such joy to entertain family and friends in her beautifully furnished home that she had so lovingly decorated. She also loved to work in her many flower gardens, where she found peace and felt a closeness to God.
The word that best defines Debbie is "caretaker" as she dedicated her life to taking wonderful care of her family, and diligently performing her career responsibilities. She tirelessly devoted her time to many organizations and charities including: president Western North Dakota Financial Women International, DC Economic Development Council, Leaders Program, Crosby Spirit Sales Tax Fund, charter member DC Dollars for Scholars, past president Crosby Area Chamber, vice president Northwest Hospital District Board, DC FBLA Advisory Group, charter member Dakota Theatre Management Team, Crosby City Council (10 years), charter member Women of the Moose, past chairman DC American Cancer Society, Tri-County Regional Council, Treasurer Upper Missouri Conference, and many fundraising committees.
Because of her outstanding service, she earned the 2009 SBDC Lender of the Year Award, and also the DC Economic Development Council Community Builder Award 2010 Volunteer of the Year. She was a strong champion for better water, helping to lay the groundwork for what became the Burke-Divide-Williams Water Association.
