He was born in Bowman, South Carolina, on June 29, 1920 and was a longtime resident of Columbia. During WW II, he was a bomber pilot in Europe and was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal. He attended the University of South Carolina while working in various positions at the company that became Exxon Mobil. In 1969 he was transferred to Pennsylvania where he has lived in Malvern since that time. He retired from Exxon in 1978 and worked in customer service at Aegon Insurance until his retirement in 1997.
