Aged 71y; no stone found for William in the Wickersham plot, as shown. Large monument has names of his parents, Col. Dudley and Margaret, and his sister, Carrie Matheny.

William Wickersham, parole clerk at the northern Illinois State penitentiary, a son of the late Colonel Dudley Wickersham, formerly United States marshal of this district, died at 6 o'clock this morning at a hospital in Joliet, of heart trouble, following only a brief illness. Until about twenty years ago, when he went to Joliet to assume the position he held at the time of his death, Mr. Wickersham had continuously resided in Springfield. For a number of years he was associated with his father in the grocery business at 609-11 East Monroe street, present State Register building.

Colonel Wickersham, father of the decedent, was a regimental commander in the Civil War, and later was United States marshal. He was a member of the board of directors of Oak Ridge cemetery. On his death, his son succeeded him on the board.

William Wickersham never married. Both of his parents have been dead for a number of years. One sister died in early childhood, while another, Mrs. Carrie Wickersham Matheny, wife of Dr. Ralph C. Matheny, formerly of this city, died some eighteen years ago. While in Springfield, Mr. Wickersham was an active member of First Methodist church.

The only survivors are two cousins, Mrs. Kate Ememan and Miss Norvie Young of Brooklyn, N. Y. The remains will be brought to this city Sunday. Mr. Wickersham was a member of the old Governor's Guard, and went with that organization to New Orleans when they won the first prize for drilling over a number of crack military organizations from all over the United States.
