Helen A. Wichers, age 79 of Danbury, wife of the late Thomas J. Wichers, died at the Danbury Hospital Saturday, March 21, 2009 following a brief illness. Helen was born in Newark, N.J., August 6, 1929, daughter of the late Abdoo and Jennie (Jenna) Abraham. She was a graduate of Western Connecticut State University, Class of 1948. She and her husband had been a co-owner of the former Al's Super Market on Lake Ave. in Danbury and they had owned and operated the West Redding Food Center in West Redding, until they retired in 1991. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury. She enjoyed yard work, gardening, cooking and being a housewife. Helen is survived by two sons, Thomas D. Wichers of Raleigh, N.C. and Robert C. Wichers of New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Kathleen Scott of Hayes, Va.; four grandchildren, Kevin, Jacquelyn, Ryan, and Robert; one great-grandchild, Aedan; and a brother, Alfred. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Michael. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, Wednesday morning at 10. Burial will take place in Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call in the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Contributions in her memory, may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
