Amanda Lee Whitman Henry, 72, of Hixson, TN went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 8, 2012.

Mrs. Henry graduated from East High School in Nashville, TN, and attended the University of Tennessee. In 1957, she was awarded the coveted honor of being selected as Miss Tennessee. She was the first in Miss America Pageant history to bring Trampoline Acrobatics to the talent competition.

Mrs. Henry is retired from National Print Group. She served on the board for the Association of Retarded Citizens and volunteered with The Orange Grove Center and the Special Olympics.

She is a member of Harrison United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Dorothy Whitman; daughter, Leeann White; her husband, Ken Henry; and brother, Albert Whitman.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Bonnie White of Lakesite, TN; granddaughter, Lexi White; grandson, Thomas White; step-children, Valorie Hughes, Rick Henry, Ted Henry, Ken Henry; several step-grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Noon Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tom Hancock officiating.

Interment will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Orange Grove Center, 615 Derby Street Chattanooga, TN 37404.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 11 2012 at the funeral home.
