Peggy Jean Clayton, 86, of Snellville, Georgia, passed away on October 21, 2016, at Emory University Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, following a long illness. She was born in Rutherfordton, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lambert Edwin Clayton of Suwanee, Georgia, and their son, Michael Lambert Clayton, of Statham, GA. She was the daughter of the late Harold E. and Mattie Mae Whitesides. Peggy retired from Sears Roebuck and worked part-time as a sales associate at J.C. Penney and Sam’s Club. She received great joy from her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and was very proud of each one. She also enjoyed her hobbies of sewing, quilting and cooking.
She is survived by her children: Edwin Eugene Clayton, and his wife, Debra Gail, of Greenville, SC; Lynda Victoria Horwitz, and her husband, Michael, of Snellville, GA; Susan Beth Clayton of Johns Creek, GA; Marianne Gulbranson, and her husband, Michael, of Braselton, GA; Ellen Renee Rod, and her husband, Morten, of Buford, GA; Timothy Lee Clayton, and his wife, Rebecca, of Warrior, AL. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
She is survived by a sister, Martha, and her husband, Jim Sitton, of Hendersonville, NC; a sister, Kay Gussman of Hendersonville, NC; a brother, Harold Jr., and his wife, Joyce, of Brevard, NC; a brother, Ernest, and his wife, Kay, of Mt. Pleasant, TX. She was preceded in death by her sister, Vera Lockaby Crane, and her brother, Jerry W. Whitesides.
Funeral Services will be 1 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Shuler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Marsceau officiating. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior.
