Helen Marie Whitesides Boyd "Corn Lady", 81, of Gastonia, was a daughter to the late Kelly Hoover Whitesides and Iola Dougan Whitesides. She was predeceased by her brothers, Franklin "Dee" Whitesides and James Ray Whitesides; sister-in-law, Margaret Howell Whitesides; brother-in-law, Paul E. Boyd.
Helen attended schools in Bessemer City, NC, and was a graduate of Bessemer City High School. She was a member of Pisgah ARP Church, served a number of terms on the Board of Deacons, Secretary of the Executive Building Committee for the Elliott Center, served as a Certified Church Secretary at Pisgah ARP Church for 20 years, working under the leadership of Dr. Mark B. Grier, Dr. Robert B. Elliott, Jr. and Rev. Thomas Myers and 3 years at Calvary Baptist Church as Administrative Assistant to Rev. Bobby Belcher. She also served on the Gaston County and Gastonia Farmers Market Board of Directors, served as Secretary and Treasurer of Boyd Farms, Inc. and was nicknamed "Corn Lady" by friends and customers of Boyd Farms in Gastonia and surrounding areas. She was also employed at Matthews Belk in Gastonia for 16 ½ years and served as Caretaker to a number of special friends.
Interment will be at Pisgah ARP Church Cemetery.
