Vivian Adeline "Bip" Jones, 93 of McCrory, died Saturday, April 18, 2009. Vivian was born March 4, 1916 in Fayette County, Alabama, the daughter of James M. and Fatima "Tiny" Adeline Morris Whitehead. Her family moved to Woodruff County, Arkansas in the early 1920's. She married Paul James Ladd on June 19, 1932 in Woodruff County Arkansas and together they had four sons, one of whom died in infancy and two daughters. After Paul's death in 1943, Vivian married Thurman Franklin Jones on September 21, 1948. They had one son who was stillborn and two daughters.
Vivian lived most of her life in the Woodruff and Jackson County areas of Arkansas. Although she endured many hardships and tragedies during her lifetime, she maintained a wonderful sense of humor that endeared her to many relatives and friends and sometimes even to complete strangers. She enjoyed the company of her many grandchildren and delighted in entertaining them with jokes and stories. Even though she had limited formal education, she did not lack an above-average base knowledge that eludes many. She achieved her superior longevity by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. She never owned an automobile and enjoyed walking until she was almost ninety years old. Vivian was a member of the Church of Christ. She attended church and read her Bible regularly as long as she was able to do so.
Vivian is survived by six children; sons, James E. Ladd and his wife Dorothy of Newport,and Robert L. Ladd of Weldon; daughters, Kathleen Jouveneau and her husband Dave of Bono, Barbara Hawkins of Weldon, Wanda J. Wilson and her husband Daniel of Cleveland, Tennessee and Thurna Morgan and her husband Danny of Tupelo; stepdaughter, Betty Runyan and her husband Bobby Dean of Bradford, sister, Flonie Strange of Baytown, Texas; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ladd of Weldon, 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren.
Vivian was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Carl Ladd of Weldon; four grandsons; six brothers, Vadis Whitehead of Glen Allen, Alabama, Claytus Whitehead of Hoxie, Demus Whitehead of McCrory, Burnie Whitehead of Newport and infant twins, Murray Lynn and Bobby Glenn Whitehead, two sisters, Stella Jackson of Tupelo and Catherine Jackson of West Memphis.
Pallbearers will be Richard Jones, Eric Morgan, Ramsey Al-Khamoas, Dusty Wilson, Michael Ladd and Clinton Ladd, Honorary pallbearers will be Billy and Lynn Ladd.
Services 2:00 p.m. Monday at McCrory Church of Christ with burial in White Lake Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 4:30-8:00 at the funeral home.
