Beloved Matriarch of the Barcus family, EDNA FAYE WHITEFIELD BARCUS was born July 2, 1916 and died July 25, 2009 at the age of 93 in Waxahachie, TX.
While a young church organist she met and married her husband of over 60 years, who died in 1990. In 1938 she married the famous Volney Cyrus Barcus, who had enjoyed many years both as a student and the Mustang Band Director at S.M.U. Following in the footsteps of his father, uncles, and twin brother Ed, Cy, as he was known, became a Methodist minister. He and Edna Faye began a long career serving the United Methodist Church. Edna Faye will long be remembered for her wonderful musical talent at both organ and piano, and her love for entertaining.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bette Barcus Carpenter and husband Fred of Houston, Cyrus Edward Barcus of Dallas, Barbara Jane Barcus of Waxahachie. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren include Clare Carpenter Leppert with children Lake and Katie, Houston; Cyrus Edward Barcus, Jr. and wife Kloe with children Britton, Brooke, and Cyrus Edward Barcus III; Clarke Washburne Barcus, Dallas.
A Celebration of Life will be at Cox Chapel at Highland Park United Methodist Church Wednesday, July 29 at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to The SMU Mustang Band Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 750493, Dallas, TX 75275-0493 in memory of Edna Faye and Cy Barcus.
