Rebecca Claypoole, born ca 1721, married James Claypoole (1721-1784) at Christ Church, Philadelphia on May 24, 1742. She was born in Burlington, New Jersey, the daughter of Joseph White and Mary Heulings White. She was the mother of James Claypoole Jr. (ca 1743-1822), portrait painter, of Philadelphia and from ca 1770, of Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Her 2nd son, Joseph, (ca 1745-?) was the owner and Master of the Sloop 'Sukey', of Philadelphia, Pa; he lost his mast and was towed into Ocracock by His Majesty's sloop 'The Hornet', under Capt. Morgan. on Sept. 15, 1767. From a 'Georgia Gazette' report dated October 7, 1767.
