Phyllis Weimer, age 85, of Hockessin, Delaware died on Saturday November 15.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Phyllis graduated from the University of Delaware in 1944 and married Robert Weimer of Newark Delaware in October of that year. She traveled with her husband after WWII during his years in the Navy, then returned to Delaware and lived in New Castle and then Hockessin during their 60 years of marriage. Phyllis worked as a teacher for children who were homebound with illness or disability, and also as a substitute in the Colonial School District. She was a volunteer with PTA, a Day in Old New Castle, the Delaware Republican Party, and the Winterthur Museum. She was also an active member of the congregations of Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green in New Castle and St. Andrews Church in Wilmington.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Robert Vaughn and Ada Coulbourne White, by her husband Robert D. Weimer, and her son-in-law Barry Smith. She is survived by her two daughters: Linda Smith of Chicago Illinois and her children Douglas, Matthew and Emily; and Susan Weimer and her husband Neil Himelein and their two children Russell and Scott. Phyllis is also survived by her sister-in-law Katherine Wein of Perryville, MD and her six children.
The family wishes to thank Phyllis' caregivers from Senior Social Services who provided the companionship and support to allow her to remain in her home during her final years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6 at 10 am at Saint David's Episcopal Church, 2320 Grubb Road in Wilmington. Burial will be private.
