Fort Bragg
Lena Books, 76, of Fort Bragg died Tuesday at Mendocino Coast Hospital following a long illness.
She was born, raised and educated in Nebraska. In her early teens she worked and traveled with a carnival throughout the Midwest and along the West Coast. She worked most of her adult life as a cook and waitress throughout California.
In 1946 she moved to Ukiah, where she worked at the White Cottage Restaurant for many years. She retired in 1970. She moved to Fort Bragg in 1985 and had been an active member of the Fort Bragg Senior Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Books in 1979.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George and Sharon L'Ecuyer of Fort Bragg.
Graveside services will be a 2 p.m. today at the Russian River Cemetery in Ukiah.
Arrangement are by Chapel by the Sea in Fort Bragg.
