Viola Banks
(March 22, 1921 - December 17, 2006)

Viola Banks was born to the late Ned and Maggie Wheeler on March 22, 1921. She was the second of nine children. She departed this life peacefully in her home on December 17, 2006. Viola was baptized at an early age at the Pine Top Baptist Church in Coatopa, AL where she was an active member. After moving to IL in 1957 she joined Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she was an active member until her passing. She loved to read the bible, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She served as president of the Mother's Board Ministry and also on the Missions Ministry. She met no stranger, and touched so many lives and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. She gave her help without having to be asked and her words of wisdom were always sincere. She had a passion for gardening and especially when it came to beautiful floral arrangements. She loved serving her church, her family, friends, traveling and the many challenges of everyday life. Viola was married to Thomas Banks, who preceded her in death. The beauty of her life is best expressed in those she loved and left to cherish her memory: One daughter, Lucy Collier; 2 grandsons, Jeffrey, Sr., and Reuben Collier, Jr.; two very special great- grand daughters, Porscha and Tyesha Collier; 6 great-grand sons; 1 step- daughter, Mary Lou Finch; 1 step-daughter in-law, Izona Banks of Gallian, AL; 3 step-sons, Carl (Leona) Banks of Grayslake, IL; Jake and Leroy of Waukegan, IL, 1 guardian step-granddaughter, Lisa (William) Collins; 2 sisters, Sarah Smith of Detroit, MI and Gertrude (Dock) Brown of Waukegan; 1 brother, Dura (Julia) Wheeler of Duncanville, TX; 1 sister-in-law, Dorothy Wheeler and 1 brother- in-law Percy Charleston, both of Detroit, MI; And a host of step-grandchildren step great-great grandchildren, special nephews and nieces, cousins and friends.
