Mary Jo Bartlett, 96, a 60-year resident of Amenia, NY died February 28, 2010 at her home. Born July 10, 1913 in Salisbury, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anthony J. Whalen and Mary E. Whalen Whalen. During World War II, Mrs. Bartlett served as a Corporal in the United States Army Air Force and earned the Good Conduct, American Service and Victory Medals and the YAAC Service Ribbon. After her discharge from the service in 1945, she resided in Winter Haven, FL where she worked as a hairdresser. On April 21, 1950 in Florida, she married William E. Bartlett who died on June 8, 1995. Mrs. Bartlett is survived by two sons, William W. Bartlett, and his wife, Dawn Marie, of Amenia, NY and Barry W. Bartlett of Amenia, NY; three grandsons, Christopher Bartlett, William W. Bartlett, Jr. and Joseph Bartlett; a granddaughter, Alexis Bartlett and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Babe, Brick, and Turk Whalen and three sisters, Kathleen Lamb, Elizabeth Mattheson, and Emma Parsons.
