Eleanor Elaine (Wetherbee) Borkowski, 65, of Cedar St., Middletown passed away peacefully on Wednesday (June 27, 2012) surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in New Haven, the daughter of the late Edward and Katharine (Chadderton) Wetherbee. She was predeceased by her sister Janet Wetherbee.

She was survived by her two wonderful sons, Matthew Borkowski and Dr. Kenneth Borkowski and his wife Jessica (Phillips) Borkowski; her loving and caring sisters, Laura Sullivan and Sue Crocco and her husband Christopher Crocco; her nieces through Laura, Wendy Gilbert and her husband William Gilbert, Emily Drinkard and Sarah Sullivan; and one grand-daughter through Ken and Jess, Kayla Teagan Borkowski who was the pride and joy of her life. She was also survived by numerous cousins and friends who were dear to her heart.

She graduated from Hamden High School in 1965 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education at Southern Connecticut State College in 1969. She later attained her Master's Degree in Education at Southern Connecticut State University.

She moved to Middletown in 1974 and was an active member of the community as both an elementary school teacher in the Middletown School System for 22 years and as a member of numerous clubs and organizations, most notably: Junior Women's Club, Middlesex County Retired Teachers Association, Middlesex County Historical Society, Middlesex Institute for Lifelong Education at Middlesex Community College, Friends of Long Hill Estate and on the Citizen's Board at the Russell Library.

While her health allowed she enjoyed painting and fine arts, the culinary arts, as well as opera, theater and music. She enjoyed dancing, hiking and skiing and she loved to travel. She cruised to numerous islands in the Caribbean and she adored traveling in Europe, spending time in Ireland, France, Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

She was full of life and lived it to the fullest.

Friends may call on Sunday, July 1 at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, CT from 3-6pm.

A brief service for friends and family will be held that night at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Burial will be on Monday at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Hamden.
