He was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. He was a longtime associate in the family-run business, Westmoreland Typewriter Co., of Florence. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mildred Westmoreland, and brother, Wayne Westmoreland.
Visitation with the family will be today 10 a.m. until noon today at Greenview Funeral Home. A private graveside service will follow in Greenview Memorial Park, with Fred Dillon officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the grave.
Survivors are his wife, Sara Jaynes Westmoreland; a son, Charles Raymond "Chuck" Westmoreland III and wife, Penny, of Muscle Shoals; a step-son, Steven Perkins and wife, Wendy, of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Johnson and husband, Joel, of Gardendale, Susan Kay McDonald and husband, Jimmy, of Killen; one sister, Gloria Richmond and husband, Bud, of Florence; sister-in-law, Edra Westmoreland, of Haleyville; five grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Johnson, Josie Westmoreland, Alex and Rachel McDonald.
Active pallbearers will be Johnny Burch, Larry Yeargan, Harold Fulks, Roger Brown, Tom Haddock and Michael Pongetti.
Honorary pallbearer will be Robert O. Cox.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 104 S. Poplar St., Florence, AL 35630.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the sixth floor at ECM and the palliative team unit for its care, compassion and concern, with a special thank you to Sharon and Michelle.
