Frances West Ammons, age 86, died Saturday, August 14, 2004, in Amarillo. Frances was born on August 1, 1918 to Joseph and Margaret Reynolds West in Wheeler County. She came to Collingsworth County in 1925 with her family. Frances was a graduate of Wellington High School in 1936. She married J.W. "Wes" Ammons on April 15, 1939 in the Aberdeen Community of Collingsworth County. She was a homemaker. A former resident of Dumas, she was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and cooked for the ranch hands that her husband worked with on the W.H. Taylor Estate. As a Wellington resident, she worked as a sales clerk for several local businesses and volunteered with the Methodist Flea Market. Frances was a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2001; a granddaughter, Rochelle Ammons in 2003; and one brother, Ramie L. West.
Immediate survivors include two sons, James Ammons and wife, Janet of Wellington, and Dan Ammons and wife, Sherry of Dumas; sister, Maggie Jo Young, Doniphan, MO; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
