Inobia Baker
Sept. 12, 1920 - Oct. 17, 2011

Inobia "Sweet" Mabel Baker of South Bend, Indiana passed away on October 17, 2011 in her home.
Inobia, 91, was born September 12, 1920 in Horseshoe Lake, Arkansas to Clem and Annie West. She received her primary education in the Arkansas Public School system. Inobia came to South Bend, Indiana in 1965 and was employed by, and retired from St. Joseph's Hospital.

Inobia accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of St. Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Missionary Board and the Kitchen Committee. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family, always cooking and feeding everyone; making nobody a stranger. Inobia also enjoyed flowers, gardening and fishing.

Those left to cherish her memory are 10 children: Geraldine (Willie) Hastings, Matie Scott, Velma Washington, Helen Chandler, Arbara "Christine" Mason, Barbara Townsend, Elmore Baker, Isaac (Valetta) Baker, Flora Mae Hursey and Laurine Smith. Inobia was blessed with 28 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind brothers, Arthur (Elizabeth) West of California, John T. (Lula) West of South Bend, Indiana and James West of Southfield, Michigan; brother-in-law, Gilbert "Smitty" (Audrey) Smith; sister-in-law, Ruth Holt, both of Detroit, Michigan. Inobia also shared a very close relationship with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.

Family members who preceded her in death are a son, Willie Baker Jr.; parents, Clem and Annie West; brothers, Booker T. (Geneva) West, and Clark (Rosie) West; sister, Laura (Woodrow) McDonald; grandchildren, Anthony Baker, Debra Miller and Patricia Miles; great-grandchildren, Delvon Davidson and Cornelius "Leonard" Mason.

Funeral services for Inobia Mable Baker will be held on Monday, October 24, 2011 in Saint Paul Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 621 Lindsey Street.

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
