Ida Jeanette Mannix (nee Wessman) died May 23 at Clark County Memorial Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. She was 83 years old.
Ida was born May 13, 1924, and spent her childhood in Minnesota. She earned degrees from St. Paul Bible Institute (currently Crown College, St. Bonifacius, Minnesota) and Taylor University (Fort Wayne, Indiana). After teaching at Canadian Bible College, she was assigned to the mission field in Quito, Ecuador. Ida served there for six years until God placed a new calling on her life.
On June 1, 1959, she married Ben Mannix and subsequently raised five children. She also earned an MA in education from Indiana University. A member of the Indiana Teachers Union, she taught Spanish and English in Indiana public schools for 20 years. Always active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) churches she attended, Ida worked tirelessly for the Lord and for her family, furthering God's Kingdom and touching the lives of many students.
Ida is survived by her husband of 48 years; one brother, Henry Wessman Jr.; four sisters, Verona Burg, Lorna Keil, Stella Keil and Barbara Weaver; her sons Ben Mannix Jr., Tim Mannix and Brian Mannix; daughters Martha Mannix and Laura Kuniholm; and grandchildren Jenny and Kerry Mannix, Mindy Thompson, Amanda Reeb, Jordan and Triston Mannix, Erica, Ben, Drew, Jessie and David Kuniholm.
A memorial celebration of Ida's life was held at the First Alliance Church at 3726 Bardstown Rd, with pastor Ken Toczyski officiating. Arrangements were by Arch L. Heady & Son 3601 Taylor Blvd in Louisville, with interment at Louisville Memorial Gardens West cemetery.
