GIRARD - M. Joann Allen, 77, of Girard passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Pleasant Hill Village Nursing Home in Girard.
Joann was born on Sept. 22, 1932, in Henry, IL, the daughter of Wesley Clayton Wertz and Maurine (England) Wertz Collins. She married Lloyd Edward Allen on Oct. 14, 1951, at the Methodist Church in Girard.
Joann worked for the State Bank of Girard, worked alongside her husband on the family farm, was a bus driver for Girard schools and worked with son, Phil, at Gents Only Clothiers in Girard, Virden and Springfield.
She was a member of the Girard Methodist Church. She was a member of PEO (Chapter EJ), Eastern Star and served as secretary and treasurer for the Girard Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Joann is survived by her husband; 3 children, Barbie (husband Larry) Meyers of Girard, Phil Allen of Girard and Jeff Allen of Marion; sister, Judi (husband Lou) Thomas of Clarendon Hills; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, and funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Davis Anderson Funeral Home in Girard. Burial will follow at Girard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Girard Fire and Rescue Squad.
