Aviation Machinist Mate First Class AMM1c Charles Ervin Wells


His plane was on a bombing mission, taking off from Guadalcanal when it crashed in the ocean. He had been in the service 4 years and overseas only one month.

He was declared legally dead one year and one day after reported missing.


He was married and had a sister, Mary Phyllis Wells. His dad had been a night manager in an auto livery and had been in the infantry in WWI.
