Gary Richard Weinandy has joined his parents, John and Barbara Weinandy in Heaven. After his fight with brain cancer for two and a half years, Gary died peacefully in his home on Monday, January 16, 2012. Gary lives on through his family; wife, Joyce; sons, Adam (Margaux) and Alex; his only sister, Gale and her husband Mark Mitchell; Joyce's family, John and Kay Brown, Susan and John Staley, Jeff and Pam Brown, Sandy and Bill Westrick, Phyllis and Allen Scheckelhoff, Greg and Cindy Brown, Tom and Annette Brown, Robyn and Joe DeMay; his god-children, Abby Brown and Ryan Mitchell and all of his 19 nieces and nephews. Gary graduated from St. Francis DeSales High School in 1972 and from The University of Toledo, College of Civil Engineering in 1976. He proudly served the City of Toledo for 26 years and the Ohio Department of Transportation for 8 years. Among Gary's life passions were golfing, tending to his yard, supporting the Detroit Tigers and UT Rockets, and being a loving father and husband. He has been a contributing member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish for 20 years where he strengthened his relationship with God. We would like to extend an abundance of thanks to all our angels who have cared for Gary, his family and his home throughout his illness. We could not have fought this fight without your help and support. Gary's life will be celebrated on Thursday, January 19, 2012. The viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Toledo, 6145 Hill Avenue. The interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebratory reception will be held at Valleywood Golf Course in Swanton, Ohio at 1:30 p.m., 13502 Airport Highway. Arrangements by The Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home. 419-531-4424. In lieu of sending flowers, our family is requesting donations to Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio, Nightingales Harvest, or the Our Lady of Lourdes Shrine -Church Hospitality Kitchen. We thought of you with love today. But that is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday. And days before that too. We think of you in silence. We often speak your name. Now all we have is memories. And your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake. With which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our heart. Author unknown
